VETERAN
You
men and women who served in the armed forces
deserve the utmost respect, admiration and appreciation for the sacrifices
you
made
for the benefit
of our
freedom, our country and all of its citizens. It's appalling and
indefensible to us that your benefits should be cut and your health
care should be substandard. Yet you yourself pay taxes to subsidize
these religious institutions that pay nothing toward
all of the benefits they receive - including the protection of the
best millitary in the world. Yet you, who served your country, must
pay taxes, while those on
a religious
payroll do not. (A 1986 estimate showed religious income
in that year of approx. $100 billion, all tax free.) We believe
this is fundamentally unjust. Churches should simply be treated like
everybody else.
Frankly
we would rather see YOU get tax exemptions than the clergy, but that's
really not the point. We think
it unjust that these tremendously wealthy organizations are simply
exempt from paying their fair
share of taxes - a huge
sum that would go a long way toward better benfits for people like
you who
truly deserve it.
No
one is asking you to abandon your church or your faith. Think about
it: once religious institutions are paying their fair share of
taxes like everybody else, your own tax burden will be lessened proportionally.
Then you will
be
better
able
to financially support whatever church or institution you
wish.
WE
DO NOT WANT YOUR MONEY. SERIOUSLY.
WE
WANT YOU TO DO THIS: The next
time our Congress is looking for $20 billion a year to finance another
war, tell them to look no further than an income tax on religious
payroll. Tell
them today.
