MILITARY

You men and women of our armed services deserve the utmost respect, admiration and appreciation for the sacrifices you make for the benefit of our freedom, our country and all of its citizens. It's appalling and indefensible that your benefits should be cut, your health care should be substandard, and you should be sent into combat zones with inadequate equipment (unarmored Humvees in Iraq?). Yet all the while you are paying taxes to subsidize religious institutions that pay nothing toward all of the benefits and services they receive - including the protection of the best millitary in the world.

What freedom are you fighting for?

A 1986 estimate showed religious income in that year of approx. $100 billion, all tax free. You who put your life on the line for this country are taxed, while those on a religious payroll are not, and we believe this is fundamentally unjust.

Next time Congress is looking for $20 billion a year to finance another war, we need to tell them to look no further than an income tax on religious payroll. These institution should simply be treated like everybody else. So contact your representatives and tell them this: Tax the churches.
